Terms and Conditions
In short: Artificial University is an independent online learning and building platform, not an accredited school. You own what you build; we host it and may take it down if it breaks these rules. AI credits are usage units, not money. Paid plans renew until you cancel. The AI can be wrong, so review what it produces before you rely on it. The full text below is what actually governs.
1. About Artificial University
Artificial University (“Artificial University”, “we”, “us”, “our”) provides an online learning program about building products with AI, together with Artificial Canvas, a tool for describing, generating, refining, testing and publishing software projects (“creations”), a community showcase, public portfolios, and related features (together, the “Service”). The Service is available at artificialuniversity.app and its subdomains.
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and the operator of Artificial University. They apply to every visitor, account holder, and to every person who uses a creation that we host on a creator’s behalf.
2. Accepting these Terms
By creating an account, ticking the acceptance box at sign-up, purchasing a plan, or using the Service in any way, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you use the Service on behalf of a company or another organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind that organisation, and “you” includes it.
3. Educational disclaimer
Artificial University is not an accredited educational institution. It is not a university, college, school or degree-granting body in any jurisdiction, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or recognised by any accrediting agency, ministry or department of education, or professional licensing body, notwithstanding the word “University” in its name.
- Completing any level, lesson, quiz, test or the full program does not award an academic degree, diploma, college credit, professional qualification, licence or certification, and is not a substitute for any of them.
- Progress records, scores, badges and any certificate-style acknowledgement we may show are for your own information and motivation only. They carry no formal academic or professional standing.
- Course content, readings, downloadable materials, quizzes and AI-generated explanations are provided for general educational purposes. They may contain simplifications, omissions or errors, and they do not constitute legal, financial, tax, business, medical or other professional advice.
- We make no promise about learning outcomes, employability, income, business results, or the success of any product you build. Results depend on you.
4. Accounts and eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account. A younger person may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, who accepts these Terms on their behalf and is responsible for their use.
- You must provide accurate information and keep it current. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account and for keeping your password confidential. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
- One person, one account. Do not share, sell or transfer an account, and do not create accounts to evade limits, bans or these Terms.
- During any invitation-only or beta period, access may require an invitation code. Invitations are personal, may be limited in number or time, and may be withdrawn.
5. Plans and paid features
The Service offers a free plan and paid plans. What each plan includes, its price and its billing period are described on the pricing page at the time you subscribe. In general, the free plan includes the AI builder (Artificial Canvas) with a small monthly AI credit allowance and private projects, while the course (its lessons, readings and downloadable materials, practice activities, quizzes and tests), the resource libraries, publishing creations, listing them in Community, exporting project code, public portfolios, higher AI capability settings and larger monthly AI credit allowances are reserved for paid plans. If a paid plan ends, your saved course progress stays on your account and becomes available again when you return to a paid plan.
We may change which features are free or paid, add or retire plans, and change prices. Changes that affect an existing paid subscription take effect at the start of your next billing period after we notify you, unless the law requires otherwise. Where a paid feature has been made available to you without charge (for example during a beta), we may withdraw it at any time.
6. AI credits
- Artificial Canvas meters AI usage in credits. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of credits. The number of credits a request consumes depends on the size and complexity of the work; the workspace shows your balance and recent usage.
- Credits are usage units, not money. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred, sold, exchanged or redeemed, and are not refundable.
- Included credits reset at the start of each monthly allowance period and unused credits do not roll over.
- Paid plans may apply a daily usage ceiling as a share of the monthly allowance, to protect accounts from runaway usage. Credits may be reserved while a request is in progress and released or settled when it completes.
- We may grant promotional or testing credits (for example to beta members). These are provided at our discretion, may carry expiry dates or restrictions, and may be reduced or withdrawn at any time.
- We may adjust how usage is metered as the underlying technology and its costs change. We will not reduce the allowance included in a plan you have already paid for during the current billing period.
7. Payments, renewals, and taxes
- Paid plans are subscriptions. Unless stated otherwise at checkout, they renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current price until you cancel.
- Paid plans are sold and billed through our payment partner, named on the checkout page, which acts as the merchant of record (reseller) for the purchase. The partner’s own terms for that purchase, shown at checkout, also apply, and its name may appear on your receipt and card statement. We do not receive or store your full card details. By subscribing you authorise the partner to charge your payment method for the recurring fee and any applicable taxes.
- Prices on the pricing page are shown in US dollars and exclude taxes unless stated. Where VAT, sales tax, GST or a similar tax applies to your purchase, the payment partner calculates it from your location and shows it at checkout before you pay.
- Changing plans. You can move to a different paid plan or billing period at any time. The change takes effect immediately: you are charged for one full billing period of the new plan, less the unused value remaining in your current period, and your renewal date moves to the day of the change. If the unused value is greater than the price of the new plan, the difference is kept as credit on your billing account and applied automatically to your future charges. The exact amount is shown before you confirm the change.
- If a payment fails, we may retry it and may suspend paid features until it succeeds. Continued non-payment may result in your plan being downgraded to the free plan.
- Where checkout or billing is not yet enabled, no purchase can be completed and no charge is made; any paid feature you can use in that period is provided at our discretion under section 5.
8. Cancellations and refunds
- You can cancel a subscription at any time from your account or by contacting us. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for, after which your account moves to the free plan.
- Except where the law gives you a non-waivable right to a refund, and apart from the billing credit a plan change can create (section 7), fees are non-refundable and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial periods, unused credits, or features you did not use. Billing credit from a plan change is applied to future charges and is not paid out in cash.
- If you believe you were charged in error, contact us within 14 days of the charge and we will look into it.
- As merchant of record, the payment partner may also issue a refund in some cases (for example to resolve a dispute, or where consumer law in your country gives you a cooling-off or withdrawal right), and it provides support for the payment itself. Nothing in these Terms limits a right you have under that law.
- When your plan ends or is downgraded, features that require a paid plan stop working. The public links to your published creations stay live for 24 hours after the plan ends and then pause until you renew; while paused they show a notice instead of your creation, and any data features inside them are unavailable. Community listings and previews remain visible. Renewing a paid plan restores the links immediately. Exports may become unavailable, and any credit allowance above the free plan is forfeited. Your projects remain in your workspace for you to keep building privately, subject to these Terms.
9. Artificial Canvas and AI-generated output
- Artificial Canvas uses artificial intelligence, including services from third-party AI providers, to generate and modify code, text, images and designs from your instructions. The prompts, project context and files you provide may be transmitted to those providers to fulfil your request.
- AI output can be wrong. Generated code may contain bugs, security weaknesses, inaccurate content or material that resembles existing works. You are responsible for reviewing, testing and deciding whether to use, publish or rely on anything the Service generates. We do not guarantee that output is accurate, complete, original, secure, fit for any purpose, or free of third-party rights.
- To the extent permitted by law and subject to the rights of others, you own the output generated for you from your own inputs. We do not claim ownership of your creations. The same or similar output may be generated for other people from similar inputs, and we cannot grant you exclusivity over it.
- Do not enter into Canvas anything you are not entitled to share, including other people’s confidential information, personal data you have no right to process, or credentials that are not yours.
10. Your creations and publishing
- You keep ownership of the projects, code, text, images, files and other content you create or upload (“your content”). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, transmit, display, run and adapt your content as needed to operate, secure, back up and improve the Service, and, where you choose to publish or list something, to make it available to the public. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups for a limited period and content that others have already copied or that you chose to make public.
- Publishing makes a creation available to anyone at a web address we provide (for example a subdomain of artificialuniversity.app). Listing a creation in Community or in a public portfolio makes it discoverable on the Service. You are solely responsible for your published creations, including their content, behaviour, accuracy, legality, accessibility, and the experience of the people who use them.
- If your creation stores data for its visitors, processes payments, sends email, or connects to other services, you are the operator of that creation and responsible for complying with the laws that apply to it (including privacy, consumer and payment rules), for providing your own terms and privacy notice to your users where required, and for the credentials and third-party accounts you connect. Keep those credentials secure; we are not responsible for charges or consequences arising from services you connect.
- You confirm that you have all rights needed to use and publish your content and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights or violate any law or these Terms.
- Published web addresses are provided as a convenience and are not guaranteed to be permanent. We may change address formats or hosting arrangements with reasonable notice where practical.
11. Our right to remove or take down content
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion and at any time, to remove any creation, project, file, listing, portfolio or other content from the platform, and to take down, unpublish, disable or restrict access to any published creation hosted by Artificial University, with or without notice and without liability to you.
We may do so for any reason, including where we believe in good faith that content or a creation:
- violates these Terms or the acceptable use rules in section 12;
- is or may be unlawful, infringing, defamatory, deceptive, harmful, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable;
- is the subject of a complaint, takedown request, court order or request from a regulator or law-enforcement body;
- creates a security, privacy, legal or reputational risk for us, our users or third parties;
- consumes an unreasonable share of platform resources or interferes with the Service;
- belongs to an account that is suspended, terminated, unpaid or inactive.
Where reasonable, we will tell you what was removed and why, and you may contact us to discuss it. We are not obliged to monitor content, but we may. Removal of content does not entitle you to a refund except where required by law.
12. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service, Artificial Canvas or any published creation to:
- break any law or the rights of others, including intellectual property, privacy and publicity rights;
- create or distribute malware, phishing pages, scams, spam, fraudulent offers, or anything designed to deceive, harm or exploit people;
- harass, threaten, abuse or discriminate against anyone, or publish sexual content involving minors, content that incites violence, or other hateful material;
- collect personal data from people without a lawful basis and appropriate notice, or process sensitive data you are not entitled to process;
- gain unauthorised access to the Service, other accounts, other people’s creations or data, or to probe, scan or test the vulnerability of any system without permission;
- circumvent credits, plan limits, rate limits, security or sandbox measures, or automate use of the Service in ways it does not expose for that purpose;
- copy, scrape, reverse engineer, resell, sublicense or redistribute the Service, the course materials or the models and prompts behind it, except as these Terms allow;
- mine cryptocurrency, run unrelated workloads, or use hosted creations as general-purpose hosting or file storage;
- misrepresent your affiliation with Artificial University, or present a creation as endorsed or certified by us.
13. Intellectual property
- The Service, including its software, design, branding, course structure, lessons, readings, quizzes, downloadable materials and all other content we provide (excluding your content and AI output generated for you), belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.
- We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to access and use the course materials for your own learning while you have an account. You may not copy, share, sell, publish, or create derivative works from the course materials, including downloadable resources, except as the Service expressly allows.
- Feedback you send us may be used freely to improve the Service, without obligation to you.
- If you believe content on the Service infringes your rights, contact us (section 23) with enough detail to identify the material and your rights, and we will respond.
14. Privacy and your data
- To run the Service we store your account details, learning progress, projects, versions, uploads, published creations, notifications, usage metering and billing status. Access to your account data is controlled by your sign-in, and each account’s data is kept separate.
- We use cookies that are necessary for signing in, keeping you signed in, security and remembering your preferences.
- We share data with service providers only as needed to operate the Service, such as hosting, AI generation, email delivery and payment processing, under their own terms and safeguards. We do not sell your personal data.
- Data that visitors provide to a published creation is stored on the Service and belongs to the creator’s account for that creation; the creator is responsible for it as described in section 10.
- You can ask us to correct or delete your personal data, or to close your account, by contacting us. Some records may be retained where we are legally required to keep them or where they are needed to resolve disputes, prevent abuse or enforce these Terms.
- Our Privacy Policy explains all of this in detail. It forms part of these Terms and prevails on privacy matters.
15. Third-party services
The Service depends on third-party providers, including AI model providers, hosting and infrastructure, email delivery and payment processing, and creations may connect to further services you choose. We do not control those providers, their availability, their terms or their pricing, and we are not responsible for them. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that provider’s terms.
16. Availability, beta features, and changes
- We work to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Maintenance, updates, failures of third-party providers and events outside our control can interrupt it.
- Parts of the Service may be labelled beta, preview, early access or experimental. They may change, break or be withdrawn without notice, and any promotional access or credits associated with them may end.
- We may add, change or remove features, limits, address formats and the way credits are metered at any time. We keep backups as a routine measure, but you are responsible for exporting anything you cannot afford to lose where export is available to you.
17. Termination
- You may stop using the Service at any time and may ask us to close your account.
- We may suspend or terminate your access, in whole or in part, immediately and without liability if you breach these Terms, if required by law, if your use creates risk for us or others, or if we discontinue the Service. Where reasonable we will notify you.
- On termination your right to use the Service ends, published creations and portfolios may be taken down, remaining credits are forfeited, and we may delete your content after a reasonable period. Sections that by their nature should survive (including 3, 9 to 13, and 18 to 22) survive termination.
18. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE, THE COURSE MATERIALS, ARTIFICIAL CANVAS, AI-GENERATED OUTPUT AND HOSTED CREATIONS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY AND AVAILABILITY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, THAT OUTPUT WILL BE CORRECT OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY EDUCATIONAL, PROFESSIONAL OR COMMERCIAL RESULT WILL BE ACHIEVED. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
19. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ARTIFICIAL UNIVERSITY AND ITS OPERATOR, AFFILIATES, SUPPLIERS AND CONTRIBUTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, AI OUTPUT, OR ANY CREATION, HOWEVER CAUSED AND UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IN ANY TWELVE-MONTH PERIOD WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THAT PERIOD AND (B) ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (US$100). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
20. Indemnification
You will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Artificial University and its operator, affiliates and personnel from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your content, your published creations and their users, your connected third-party services, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
21. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of Artificial University is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any competent court. If you are a consumer, you also keep any mandatory protections and venue rights of the country where you live.
Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue informally.
22. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date and version at the top of this page will change when we do. For material changes we will give notice through the Service or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree, stop using the Service and, if you have a paid plan, cancel it before the new Terms take effect.
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, together with the pricing page and any policies referenced here, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
23. Contact
